Tasks are ranked

Characters skills will generally be average, good or very good (or poor, if a player chooses)

In non-combat-time situations you can perform any task of a lower rank than your skill, you have a 50% chance of performing any task of the same rank as your skill in the time specified (but will often have the opportunity to try again)

In combat-time situations you have a 75% chance of performing any task of a lower rank than you skill

If you wish to perform a task of greater rank than your skill, it is possible, but unlikely to succeed.

Combat Time

When we move into combat time, we start counting in rounds. Most combat-type actions take 3 rounds to complete. You can perform multiple actions at the same time at the cost of 1 additional round per action (so, to attack and defend at the same time takes 4 rounds, as does charging towards an opponent and attacking).
