In 1860, 13 years after the Providence and Worcester line was opened, a huge explosion was heard in Unity. The wreckage of a train was found some miles out of town. Investigators decided that the train's boiler had blown.
The line itself took months to repair. Several of the workers complained of hearing moans and screams on the edge of hearing, and most refused to work the stretch of line again.
Local legend has it that the train still roams the stretch of railroad, as if its passengers were looking for something before they can set off for their final destination.
