History
Endowed by IsaiahJenkin in his will in 1792, Jenkin is renowned for its Literature and History departments, its eclectic library, and its slightly eccentric collection of specialists.
Jenkin isn't in the same league educationally as Yale, Harvard or Princeton, but it's on a par with Brown ( http://www.brown.edu/webmaster/about/history/ ), with which it has a traditional and friendly rivalry, particularly on the football field. In recent years this rivalry has become somewhat less friendly; both towns have been vandalised with paint in the other town's college colour, and disgruntled students from Brown were blamed for burning down the OldPineTree.
Main Campus
Jenkin bequeathed the university a large area of land just outside what was then the town. This became the main campus, and has now been swallowed up and surrounded by the growth of Unity. The campus is dominated by the Isaiah's Tower, a clock tower that was part of the first main hall (demolished in 1845 to be replaced by more modern buildings), and the oldest surviving building of the university. This landmark is visible from most of the town.
The largest building is the Central House. This is an E shaped building, with the middle bar much shorter. Isaiah's Tower is positioned at what would be the end of the middle bar were it as long as the others. The East Wing contains the main library reading rooms. The library now needs store rooms elsewhere as well but the most commonly used and the most valuable books are stored here. the West Wing contains the administrative block, and the Chancellor's apartment. The central area is the Senate House, which functions as a location for matriculation, governance, courts of inquiry and graduation. The other significant buildings on the main campus are the School of Antiquities, the School of the Sciences and the School of Humanities buildings. These loosely map to the expected departments. At the west end of the School of Humanities is the Jenkin Auditorium - currently in a state of disrepair having been somewhat exploded due to the actions of a boiler repair man of doom.
North Campus and New Campus
There are two smaller campuses elsewhere. One contains the JenkinDragons' stadium, the boathouse and accomodation blocks for many students. The second is being built on what used to be part of OakPark, and will contain purpose built accomodation for the entire library and a new history and archeology department.
