As SarahCarpenter is finally ready to rejoin society, and RobertJohnson kindly offered to throw her a small party at 122. Shortly prior to the guests arriving, Sarah asked Robert how one would go about joining the society. Robert explained, and offered to sponsor her; Eric declined. The party was a relatively quiet affair, attended by the curator of the Unity And Lincoln Museum Of Fine Arts and his wife, the assistant curator StaceyGrove, on the arm of the charming MaxwellBlake (who, rumour has it, is angling to join the Society), and Dr LeonardGalen, the consultant at LincolnDistrictHospital who will be treating her.
Eric chatted to the curator and his wife about upcoming exhibits; apparently, ceramics are the next big thing. Robert discovered that Maxwell had been in Paris around the same time he was (about 1908-10), and vaguely recalled once seeing him in the Sorbonne library.
Once Julius managed to corner Dr Galen, the latter was more than happy to talk shop; in particular, he mentioned new MetaprandialDrugs used to treat nervous and mentally unstable patients. When Galen asked Julius about his past, Hayes steered the former back to the bar, allowing the latter to slope off to the library to find out more (Galen, being a medical doctor, couldn't provide the scientific detail Julius wanted).
Eric quized Maxwell on his desire to join the club. He confirmed that he had sponsors, but the formal application hadn't gone in yet. As for reasons, while he didn't object to carousing as such, he wanted to supplement his social circle with "interesting people". Eric confirmed that the Society had a few of those.
At about 9:00pm, Sarah noticed the time, and said she had to head back as her landlady went to bed early. Robert (who's wife was visitng her parents with the kids) offered his spare room, and she graciously accepted, so they sent an urchin to let her landlady know. The party continued until just before midnight, though the curator and his wife, and Eric, left before then.
The following morning, Robert offered to give Sarah a lift to the hospital for her first session with Dr Galen. While waiting for her in the waiting room, he struck up a conversation with SpencerPhillips, another of the doctor's patients (and an employee of the CornExchangeBank). After the session, Sarah said she felt like a walk, as it was a fine day (if a little cold). She headed off in an odd direction, but Robert didn't pay it any mind, and went back to 122, meeting Hayes, Eric and Julius there.
Hayes had sent out feelers to see if there was any way he could get MetaprandialDrugs for a reasonable price (and thus sell them for an unreasonable one). Julius had found out that the manufacturer was ReynoldsCollinsAndLucas; however, JonathanGray's friends in New York said that they hadn't started shipping it yet.
At around 7pm, Robert received a note (via urchin) inviting him to join Sarah for a picnic on JenkinCommon the following day as a thank-you. The note mentioned the others, but this had somehow slipped Robert's mind by the time he had arrived at 122 for dinner. He headed off for an early night, leaving Hayes and Eric to grumble about moral fiber and integrity, and Julius to wonder what Hayes and Eric were talking about.
Despite getting an early night, Robert still overslept, and had to rush to get to the common for 1pm. On the way, he noticed a blond woman standing outside the town hall, taking notes, but hadn't time to wonder why. He arrived at the common, where Sarah greeted him warmly, but there was something strange about her...
