and the presumed late Eric Coligny
JackProctor, a youngish (b. 1898) British novelist who has moved to America to escape from the constant reminders of the Great War. He has reasonable Latin and Ancient Greek (was bound for Cambridge before the war).
Jack is sort-of engaged to New York socialite MarthaLandsmann; in public, at least, he seems to be trying to shake her off, but she won't give up (sort of like James Stewart and Grace Kelly in Rear Window, but with more shell shock). Her parents don't approve, but she doesn't care.
Lisa DaVinci is the dillettante wife of Antonio DaVinci, a key member of Unity's community of respected businessmen (see TheMob ). Lisa is both an actress and a singer as well as a beautiful and charming member of the Unity social scene - always immaculatley dressed in the latest fashions and always ready with the latest gossip about her peers.
Because she has too much time on her hands (for a singer and actress, Lisa never actually seems to spend any time singing or acting) and a husband who can't take her shopping in New York every week, Lisa is always looking for new interests to pass the time, and membership of 122 is her current fad.
EthanLocke. An American Dandy. Stylish in the latest fashions. Lighthearted, always making jokes, even at the more inappropriate times (which may annoy the other characters) but trustworthy and reliable. Very modern and totally classless: he'll Charleston with a shopgirl or a duchess with equal elan. Lawyer (but nice).
AlsoudHassam, A young Egyptian archaeologist, who has recently been appointed Lecturer in Egyptology at JenkinUniversity, following a large donation of some rather fine Egyptian pieces to the university museum. He lives alone in a large house just beyond the university district. His undergraduate lectures mix rather dry material read from the standard text with implausible anecdotes about 'real' Egyptology. He can often be found in the library of 122, though his selection of reading material seems to tend more towards the occult than the archaeological.
SelwynReynolds is the son of New York shipping magnate (name to follow). Born in 1905, he arrived in Unity in 1930 just in time to go to the Circus (SomethingWickedThisWayComes). It is unclear why he has chosen to live in Unity, but his father has aquired for him a mansion on the island in the river.
EricColigny worked as a guard on the NYNHH railroad. He lived in the Jenks Hill District in the south of Unity. Born in 1890 he started work as a ticket clerk in 1906 and has held various posts on the railroad. He joined The Club in 1911. Eric signed up to the army in 1914 when France was invaded out of a misplaced sense of historical loyalty. He served in the army, volunteering for the American Expeditionary Force. He arrived in France in the first boat on 3 July 1917. He fought and was injured at St Mihiel in September 1918. Eric reached the rank of Corporal and was demobilised in early 1919. He was the Unity Society's go to man when something needed to be killed or blown up, until he vanished following a mishap with dynamite by Robert Johnson (DammitImMad)
RobertJohnson, lecturer in History at JenkinUniversity. Born 1887 in Washington DC, graduated from Harvard in 1910 with honours. Was set to teach there, but a scandal forced him to leave. Came to Unity in 1911 with his (very!) young wife Suzanna in tow.
Robert always looks unhealthy at the best of times, and due to recent events is probably going to start showing the strain of some sanity loss RealSoonNow...
HayesWebster is the black sheep of a wealthy Boston family.
During 1910, the activities of his imports business became too hard to explain away, so he sold it to a mysterious stranger named "Gray". He had made some money selling curios to a member of the Society, so he took a job there as barman. After prohibition, he converted the bar into the TeaRoom, and though he could still get the alcohol himself, he makes a point of paying his money to TheMob like a good boy - and has been known to help them out when their sources fail. Alessi has been heard to call Hayes his "best customer - except for that nice man JonathanGray". He mostly brings in small but expensive things. Large items he usually brings via rail from Boston; he often calls on Eric for help at the Unity end.
JuliusErlich, A German chemist/doctor, he arrived in the New World towards the end of Great War, and is dedicated to providing healing to all he can, as cheaply as he can, almost as if he is trying to absolve a guilty conscience. He knows a surprising amount about producing thick yellow gases. Julius joined TheClub out of a genuine interest in history. He spends his time there reading near the fire, protecting his delicate lungs, which were injured in a ' lab accident '.
RebeccaSwarovski is "a respectable widow" - a photographer who came to Unity ostensibly to branch out into landscapes.
BenitoTorelli. Smuggler. Rar.
DavidSchreiber is a businessman with a desire to return to the world of academia. He has recently moved to Unity to get away from the increasingly urban Providence.
AlexanderGreystone is a late middle-aged gentleman working at the CornExchangeBank. He moved to Unity in early March 1924 to take control of the CornExchangeBank for his friend [Joshua]
FillypSidorov repairs cupboards.
AmbroseThatcher. A new (1931) Librarian at the University. Recently arrived from England having emigrated for personal reasons. Has a bachelors degree in divinity and a PhD from King's College London. Spent some time working in the British library before emigrating. Born 1901, slightly above average height, mousey hair, glasses, propensity to wear tweed.
